Luke Shaefer Selected for the President’s Award for Public Impact

Professor Luke Shaefer has acquired the 2021 U-M President’s Award for Public Influence. This award honors people whose analysis and experience tangibly handle a serious public-sector problem.

Shaefer is a number one scholar of up to date American social welfare coverage and the inaugural director of U-M’s Poverty Options. He’s co-author of the acclaimed ebook, “$2 a Day: Residing on Virtually Nothing in America,” which helped lay the groundwork for present anti-poverty legislative efforts, together with President Biden’s American Rescue Plan.

“It means an amazing deal to me to be at a college that has an award like this honoring public engagement. I feel it actually lifts up the significance of this sort of work,” Shaefer mentioned. “I’m deeply honored to be a recipient as a result of I tremendously admire the students who’ve acquired it up to now.
