The German artist and printmaker Nina Hopf’s twin brother John was raised as a woman known as Johanna. However, as he explains in Hopf’s intimate brief movie Eadem Cutis: The Similar Pores and skin, John has little or no curiosity in dwelling on the previous. He rejects the label ‘transgender’ and would quite simply be seen as a person – and, above all, a human. Utilizing summary black-and-white animation seemingly drawn from impressions of a human physique, Hopf’s immersive work attracts viewers into her dialog with John to discover his view of his identification – together with why, for him, transitioning meant lastly feeling snug.
