In 9 Letters, phrases bridge the space between pals, lovers and household, forming a delicate meditation on dwelling away from residence. The Brazilian-Swiss filmmaker Cristina Müller’s poignant work features a collection of letters and playing cards starting from the Thirties to the current day, every of them written by somebody who, like Müller, is someplace aside from residence. With every letter narrated within the authors’ authentic language, the tales transport viewers throughout eras and locations, whereas the visuals supply contemplative photographs of contemporary New York Metropolis passing via the seasons. From falling snowflakes to the various colors of the sky, from cinema journeys to political views, the quick captures the feeling of dwelling each ‘right here and there’, as Müller places it. In her rendering, this someway feels each explicit to New York and acquainted to anybody who has taken up life in a brand new metropolis, removed from everybody and every part they as soon as knew.
