Joshu mentioned, “A clay Buddha can’t cross water as a result of it collapses. A metal Buddha can’t cross a forge as a result of it melts down. A picket Buddha can’t cross fireplace as a result of it burns. What’s the true Buddha?”

Scholar: “What’s the true Buddha?”

Grasp: “It by no means collapses, by no means melts down and by no means burns.

Commentary:

Seeing what doesn’t change in what modifications is seeing the Buddha.
