Stephen Nathanson, professor emeritus of philosophy at Northeastern College, has died.

Professor Nathanson was identified for his work on financial justice, warfare and peace, patriotism, punishment, and social and political philosophy. His books embrace Terrorism and the Ethics of StruggleAn Eye for an Eye: The Immorality of Punishing by DemiseThe Ideally suited of Rationality: A Protection, Inside Motive, and Patriotism, Morality, and Peace. Professor Nathanson was on the school of Northeastern for over 40 years, serving twice as division chair, and for a number of years main the college’s heart for instructing and studying. He earned his PhD from Johns Hopkins College and his undergraduate diploma from Swarthmore Faculty.

His colleagues rememember him as a devoted educator and write, “Professor Nathanson was a mentor, musician, activist, and lover of concepts. He pursued a collaborative and supportive model of philosophical follow, and believed that philosophy was essential to understanding and responding to the challenges of our instances.”

He died on February tenth. There may be an obituary here.
