Fought between 499 and 449 BCE, the Greco-Persian Wars have been a sequence of conflicts during which Greek city-states, and particularly Athens, fought off the navy advances of the sprawling Persian Empire. At the moment, it’s remembered for such storied occasions because the battles of Marathon (490 BCE) and Thermopylae (480 BCE).
