As her voice began to wobble, she continued: ‘Apologies for the emotion in my voice – he was so beloved in our information room.

‘We’ve had that information, we’ll carry you extra a little bit bit later, Rebecca apologies for the interruption, you could have the remainder of the game.’

George, who joined the BBC in 1989 and had been the face of Information At Six since 2007, handed away ‘peacefully’ surrounded by his household this morning, his agent mentioned.

Later within the present Naga shared some heartfelt phrases about her colleague describing him as a ‘voice we trusted’ and who on a private stage supported her tremendously. 

She mentioned: ‘Our beloved colleague, George Alagiah, BBC Information reporter, established reporter and correspondent, presenter who every time he delivered the information you knew you had been in protected arms.

‘He was a voice we trusted and he was somebody I can personally say I beloved, he supported me tremendously.

‘All through my profession…apologies for the emotion in my voice however I do suppose this shall be mirrored in our newsroom and our ideas after all primarily exit to those that beloved him dearly and his household.’
