“Subhuti, what do you suppose — are there many particles of mud in a billion-world universe?” Subhuti mentioned, “Very many, World Honoured One.” “Subhuti, all these particles of mud the Realised One says are usually not mud, they’re simply known as mud. The universe that the Realised One says will not be the universe, however it’s simply known as the universe.”

Commentary:

This scripture exhibits one other instance of find out how to see issues with out dwelling on photographs and phrases. By these phrases, the Buddha signifies that when he says that every part is empty, even the universe and dusts in it can’t be an exception. To cite from the Avatamsaka Sutra, it says, “If we dwell on illusions, we, having the pure eye broken, can’t see the Buddha eternally, with silly concepts growing.” If we dwell on illusions, the phrases similar to mud and universe spoken by the Buddha, we can’t see the true-Self, the true Buddha, irrespective of how lengthy we could battle to see it. To introduce yet another scripture from the Avatamsaka Sutra, it says, “In seeing issues, if there isn’t a seeing, it’s actually seeing, after which you’ll be able to see every part. If there may be seeing in seeing issues, you can not see something.”

Scholar: “How is it if the universe will not be the universe?”

Grasp: “Stuff you see and listen to are usually not issues.”

Scholar: “How is it when issues are usually not issues?”

Grasp: “Though your eyes and ears are full, there may be nothing to be seen.”
