There are two church buildings within the two Creetings that are small villages chopped by means of by the A14 simply to the north of Needham Market. Creeting St Mary and Creeting St Peter .

However this publish is concerning the two which are not there. Sadly the boards that give all of the details about All Saints and St Olaves have been put in in round  1999 after a grant to fund the Creetings Church buildings  Mission, and now are barely readable. I’ve photographed the data and re written it.

From geophysical surveys they know that is how the All Saints Church regarded with St Marys behind it, sharing a churchyard and under is St Marys as it’s now. From “eye witness” accounts from the time All Saints church is assumed to have had a spherical tower.

For almost 1,000 years the 2 church buildings for the 2 villages stood facet by facet on this excessive spot and would have been very seen from the Gipping valley under and have been generally known as “Creeting Two Church buildings”
In 1800 All Saints suffered badly in a storm after already being barely dilapidated and permission was given to demolish it in 1801 when it was discovered to have been constructed with virtually no foundations. An aisle was added to St Marys for the additional congregation.

Only a mile or so north of St Marys is a board concerning the Misplaced Church of St Olaves. The board right here is in even worse situation and tough to learn. There isn’t any village of Creeting St Olaves and the church web site has only one farm for firm on a small no by means of highway.

From the board…………

Olaf, King of Norway, fought for Ethelred II in East Anglia in opposition to the Danes. He was canonised on his demise in 1028 and stays a Norwegian nationwide hero. The Church stood reverse Woolney Corridor, the Manor of St Olaves. Held by a freeman named Ulnod

In 1066, William the Conquerer gave land to Robert , Earl of Montaigne and the Abbot of Greste established St Olaves (a cell of the Abbey of St Mary de ? in Normandy. St Olaves was offered about 1350 to the De La Pole household, Duke of Suffolk. St Olaves belonged to Henry VIII twice in his reign ultimately changing into a part of the divorce settlement of Anne of Clevesin 1540 .

The church lasted for a couple of extra years however in 1735 a customer to the positioning recorded “Church down, Hath been lengthy down”.

Discipline strolling in 1999, geophysics and an excavation of topsoil revealed part of the East wall and a few medieval glass from C14. Now all there may be to see from the financial institution above the highway – is a wheat discipline.

Again Tomorrow.

Sue
