At present I purchased socks with

sunflowers rising up from

the toes…and had a flashback.

I began carrying patterned socks

once I was a hospital social employee

counseling survivors of violent

crimes.

Trying down at my ft,

crossing my legs, I may really feel

a small smile costume my lips as I glanced

at birds, books, stars, stripes, polka

dots, Santa Claus for Xmas and hearts

for Valentine’s Day.

The socks didn’t persuade

the traumas of home violence and

sexual assault to flee my workplace.

However for the time it took to blink,

the sight of the socks sustained me

whereas the therapeutic discuss continued.
