Ballet is an artwork type that’s synonymous with magnificence and charm. However, as each ballet dancer is aware of, on the basis of each excellent plié or sauté is the tense intersection of ft, pointe footwear and the stage. On this brief documentary from the Australian Ballet, three ballerinas discover why caring for his or her ft and pointe footwear is an important, but usually hidden, a part of their artwork. With many of the documentary shot at foot peak, the charming and tactile brief captures how the stitching, slicing and burning of pointe footwear assist the dancers’ meet the calls for of their work. In doing so, the Australian-born, Berlin-based administrators Lily Coates and Gavin Youngs, of the filmmaking duo the Apiary, illustrate how the class of ballet is constructed from a strong basis of energy, craftsmanship and lots of, many calluses.
