Monastic Jo got here to have an interview with Rinzai. A monk mentioned, “Jo, why do you not bow?” On the purpose of bowing, Jo out of the blue had an incredible awakening.
Commentary:
We must always admire Rinzai’s reply, which he made by coming down from his seat, grabbing Jo, giving him a slap, after which letting go of him. Nonetheless, Jo, failing to know Rinzai’s reply, was at a loss. The monk close by gave him a touch by saying, “Why do you not bow?”. He meant, “Why don’t you specific your gratitude by bowing to Rinzai as a result of he had the kindness to provide you such a pleasant reply?” Even when Jo was instructed to bow by the monk, he gave the impression to be uncertain why he needs to be grateful to Rinzai as a result of he was not conscious of Rinzai’s reply. Nonetheless, he had the nice fortune to grasp Rinzai’s intention due to the monk.
