New York College has launched a brand new interdisciplinary program to assist, coordinate, and disseminate analysis concerning the well-being of untamed animals.

Co-directed by Becca Franks (environmental research) and Jeff Sebo (environmental research, philosophy, bioethics, regulation), the Wild Animal Welfare Program “goals to advance understanding about what wild animals are like, how people and wild animals work together, and the way people can enhance our interactions with wild animals at scale.” Of explicit curiosity are questions equivalent to “How a lot optimistic welfare (pleasure, happiness, satisfaction, and different such states) do wild animals expertise, and the way a lot unfavourable welfare (ache, struggling, frustration, and different such states) do they expertise?
