R. Lanier Anderson elected next APA board chair

The American Philosophical Affiliation is happy to announce that at its assembly final fall, the APA board of officers elected Prof. R. Lanier Anderson the affiliation’s subsequent board chair. Anderson, who will succeed Prof. Dominic McIver Lopes of the College of British Columbia, will start his three-year time period on July 1, 2023.

R. Lanier Anderson is J.E. Wallace Sterling Professor of the Humanities and Chair of the Philosophy Division at Stanford College. He was member-at-large of the APA board of officers from 2018 to 2021; he has additionally served on the APA finance committee, the Pacific Division nominating committee, and the Pacific Division program committee. Anderson was govt director of the North American Nietzsche Society (NANS) from 2015 to 2021, and chair of the NANS program committee from 2004 to 2021; a member of the American Council of Realized Societies (ACLS) and Fulbright Program screening committees; and Senior Affiliation Dean for the Humanities and Arts at Stanford College. He’s a member of the American Society of Aesthetics and the North American Kant Society, in addition to a member of the editorial boards of the European Journal of Philosophy, Journal of Nietzsche Research, Nietzsche-Studien, and Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy.

Anderson says,

I’m honored by this chance to serve the APA, a company which has executed a lot for my very own profession by way of its work to help philosophers and advance the place of philosophy within the tradition.
