Jitendra Nath “J.N.” Mohanty, professor emeritus of philosophy at Temple College, has died.
Professor Mohanty was well-known for his work on phenomenology (particularly Husserl), Kant, and Indian philosophy. He’s the creator of, amongst different works, Between Two Worlds: East and West, an Autobiography (Oxford College Press, 2002), Classical Indian Philosophy (Oxford College Press, 2002), The Self and its Different (Oxford College Press, 2000), Logic, Reality, and the Modalities (Kluwer Tutorial Publishers, 1999), and Phenomenology: Between Essentialism and Transcendental Philosophy (Northwestern College Press, 1997), Husserl and Frege (Indiana College Press, 1982), and Edmund Husserl’s Idea of That means (Springer, 1976).
