Claire Katz, professor of philosophy at Texas A & M College, is considered one of three finalists for the Robert Foster Cherry Award for Nice Educating from Baylor College, which incorporates beneficiant prizes for the finalists, winner, and their house departments.
As a finalist, Professor Katz will obtain $15,000 and will likely be invited to current a collection of lectures at Baylor College, and her house division at Texas A & M will obtain $10,000 for pedagogical improvement. The winner of the award will obtain a further $250,000 prize and can train in residence at Baylor College for a semester; the winner’s house division will obtain a further $25,000.
The award website’s description of Professor Katz describes what contributes to her being a superb candidate for the award:
Claire Katz is professor of philosophy of schooling and serves as interim division head of the Division of Educating, Studying and Tradition at Texas A&M. Earlier than becoming a member of A&M in 2006, she was affiliate professor of philosophy and Jewish research at Penn State College. She teaches and conducts analysis in two main areas: (1) the intersection of philosophy, gender, schooling and faith and (2) Ok-12 philosophy.
In 2015, Katz launched the preK-12 philosophy program, that are educator workshops for Ok-12 and college academics/directors which have reached greater than 100 academics and directors in Texas; coaching for college college students in facilitating philosophical discussions with pre-college college students; and growing and working a week-long philosophy summer time camp (Aggie College of Athens) for center and highschool college students from communities throughout Texas and the U.S.
She is the recipient of a number of awards, together with the 2019 Affiliation of Former College students Distinguished Achievement Award (College Degree) for Educating, the 2019 American Philosophical Affiliation Prize for Excellence in Educating Philosophy and the 2020 Presidential Professor for Educating Excellence, and was named a Piper Professor in Texas in 2021.
