In keeping with the Society, the prize can be awarded to “the most effective unpublished (or revealed inside the final two years) English-language philosophical essay within the subject of philosophy of incapacity as determined by the present board of the Society for Philosophy and Incapacity.”

The prize consists of $500 (or an equal share of it if there’s multiple winner) and, if the profitable essay is unpublished, an invite to publish it in The Journal of Philosophy of Disability.

The prize is called for Anita Silvers (1940-2019) who was a professor who helped set up philosophy of incapacity as an space of scholarship and an activist who spent her life advocating for incapacity rights.

Nominations for the prize are presently open. Its inaugural winner can be introduced on or earlier than the primary of September.
