In her celebrated brief movie Three Thousand (2017), the Montreal-based Inuk artist Asinnajaq presents a daring imaginative and prescient of Inuit life. Her experimental work weaves collectively practically a century of footage from the huge archive of the Nationwide Movie Board of Canada, in addition to newly commissioned animations. Early black-and-white ethnographic movies give strategy to colored photographs, together with scenes of Inuit kids in Canada’s notorious residential faculty system and, ultimately, visuals with aurora-inspired colors that trace at a vibrant Inuit future.
