Alex Voorhoeve, Professor and Head of the Philosophy, Logic and Scientific Methodology Division on the London Faculty of Economics, has been appointed to the Central Financial institution Digital Forex (CBDC) Tutorial Advisory Group, run by the Financial institution of England and the UK Treasury.
The CBDC Advisory Group brings collectively “specialists from a spread of disciplines associated to our work on the digital pound.” The Financial institution of England says:
In February 2023, the Financial institution of England and HM Treasury collectively issued a consultation paper setting out an evaluation of the motivations and design selections for a possible digital pound. Whereas no resolution has been made, that paper signalled that the digital pound is more likely to be wanted sooner or later, so our work will now transfer onto a ‘design part’.
The target of the design part is to:

- develop a complete and conceptual structure
- perform experimentation and proofs of idea, in collaboration with personal sector innovators
- inform the event of our potential structure and to construct understanding of digital foreign money expertise
An efficient design part will be certain that the event of a digital pound could be accelerated if a call is taken to construct it.
This group goals to encourage tutorial analysis and debate that’s related to enter and promote interdisciplinary discussions on a spread of subjects associated to retail CBDC, and of relevance to our work throughout the design part.
