The US filmmaker Nathan Truesdell specialises in deploying archival footage to shine a lightweight on native authorities incompetence and malfeasance – usually to droll, tragicomic effect. For his most up-to-date movie, When the LAPD Blows Up Your Neighborhood (2022), he trains his pointed modifying abilities on an incident from 30 June 2021 through which the Los Angeles Police Division bomb squad detonated some 42 kilos of confiscated fireworks in a residential, working-class neighbourhood. The ensuing explosion destroyed the armoured car meant to include it, injuring 17 and badly damaging many close by houses. Weaving collectively native information stories and pictures from press conferences, Truesdell untangles the online of carelessness and incompetence that led to the explosion, in addition to the shortage of accountability and insufficient response that adopted.
