“Subhuti, what do you suppose—is it attainable to see me, the Realised One when it comes to bodily traits?”

“No, World Honoured One; it’s not attainable to see you, the Realised One when it comes to bodily traits.”

“Why? As a result of bodily traits defined by you, the Realised One are usually not bodily traits.”

Commentary:

This paragraph reveals how we will see the actual Buddha, the true-Self. The historic Buddha tells us to not search the essence of his being, the true-Self by seeing his bodily traits; 32 major options and 80 related secondary options of the Buddha that he had talked about earlier than, as a result of they’re simply sorts of types, illusions. Concerning such bodily traits as the actual Buddha is dwelling on types, being deluded by illusions. That is towards the core of the Buddha’s instructing that we should always not dwell on any types.

Nonetheless, to not dwell on bodily traits doesn’t imply to disregard them. We should always know that the true-Self is hidden in types, bodily traits. For this reason they’re referred to as the shop of the true-Self, which signifies that we should always have the ability to discern the actual Buddha hidden in bodily traits by ceasing to dwell on them.

Scholar: “Why did the historic Buddha say that the Buddha has 32 major options and 80 related secondary options?”

Grasp: “One man instructed a lie, and ten thousand males heard the reality.”
