Douglas W. Portmore, professor of philosophy at Arizona State College, is the brand new editor-in-chief of Ethics.

Earlier editors Julia Driver and Connie S. Rosati (each of the College of Texas, Austin) stepped down on the finish of 2023.

Professor Portmore had been one of many affiliate editors at Ethics.

Requested for a press release about his new place, he replied:

Ethics is, I imagine, the main journal in philosophical ethics, and so I’m humbled by the superior accountability of taking on for Julia Driver and Connie Rosati. I’m grateful to them for his or her onerous work and wonderful management over the previous five-plus years. I’m particularly grateful for his or her having expertly stewarded the journal via some troublesome instances throughout the pandemic.

Ethics is an exceptionally well-run journal. Now we have an amazing group of affiliate and e-book evaluate editors. And our managing editor, Joseph Muszynski, is excellent. Given this, I don’t have any plans to take the journal in any new instructions or to implement any main editorial coverage modifications. I see my job as guaranteeing that the journal continues each to run easily and to benefit from the status that it has deservedly garnered. My principal focus, then, will probably be on shortening evaluate instances, particularly the time for the preliminary vetting by me, the Editor. I hope to get this all the way down to no extra than a few weeks and, hopefully, even shorter than that. I’m at the moment working via a small backlog of submissions that I inherited, however I anticipate to have it cleared inside a month or so.

I need to encourage these with high-quality and vital work in ethics to submit their papers to Ethics. I’m dedicated to creating positive that these papers get a good listening to and that the evaluate course of is as fast and environment friendly as practicable. And I’m open to all work (no matter methodology, or perspective) in ethical, social, political, and authorized philosophy. My sole aim is to make sure that what will get revealed in Ethics is what it will be significant for individuals working in these areas to learn. That stated, I’m dedicated to the work that we publish being accessible to a broad readership inside philosophy and past. This prevents me from accepting some very high-quality work that’s accessible solely to a slender, extremely specialised viewers.

Lastly, let me remind everybody to direct all questions relating to precise or doable submissions to the Managing Editor, Joseph Muszynski, at [email protected]. Please don’t write on to me or to an affiliate editor with such questions, as doing so will compromise our triple-blind evaluate procedures.
