Half 9-2

“Subhuti, what do you assume—can a saint entertain the thought, ‘I’ve attained sainthood’?”

Subhuti stated, “No, World Honoured One. Why? There isn’t any state known as sainthood. World Honoured One, if saints had been to entertain the notion, ‘I’ve attained sainthood,’ that may be fixation on the picture of self, the picture of individual, the picture of sentient being, and the picture of spirit.”

“World Honoured One, you say I’ve attained absorption in non-contention higher than anybody else, and I’m the saint most indifferent from need. Nonetheless, I don’t entertain the thought that I’m a saint indifferent from need.”

Commentary:

A real saint, conscious that every little thing is empty, is so free of being deluded by any photographs that he’s removed from having not solely the considered having attained sainthood but additionally that of being indifferent from need. Once we can see every little thing as it’s with out being deluded by photographs and phrases, there may be nothing that isn’t empty. Because of this there may be nothing that isn’t the true-Self when seen as it’s. That’s, the distinction between the true-Self and illusions is decided by our views. Sainthood and the Buddha are not more than illusions once we are deluded by their names and pictures. Even greed and need are the true-Self when seen as they’re. We must always know that illusions should not totally different from the true-Self, and Mara isn’t separate from the Buddha. Once we can see issues as they’re, every little thing is the Buddha, while every little thing is an phantasm once we are deluded by photographs and phrases. Because of this it’s stated that illusions are not any aside from enlightenment and why historic masters would say that we must always kill the Buddha and regard the Buddha and Patriarchs’ phrases as an enemy.

Scholar: “If we kill the Buddha, how can we see the Buddha?”

Grasp: “What will be killed isn’t the Buddha.”
