Jo Qina’au: So aloha everybody. I’m Jo Qina’au. I am actually excited to be sharing this meditation with you all. It is a Pilina meditation and the phrase Pilina comes from the native Hawaiian language. As Kana’iolowalu, native Hawaiian, I am all the time actually honored and glad to share about my tradition.

Pilina means connection. And so we will take into consideration Pilina as an interpersonal connection. We’re actually going to discover that in the present day. That’ll be our important focus. However the phrase itself, Pili s a sort of grass that grows in Hawaii. And so we take this phrase Pili grass and we weave it collectively to create bigger items for baskets or for clothes. And inherent within the phrase Pilina is this concept of interconnection, I like to consider it as the facility of “we.” And so hopefully after we deliver a couple of issues collectively, um, it creates one thing that is greater than its two particular person components.

So to get began, you might be seated in a snug place and even mendacity down. And you may shut your eyes in case you like. In the event you aren’t comfy with the eyes closed, be happy to simply have the eyelids be form of heavy, bringing your gaze to a single level.

And we’ll begin to attract our consciousness from the exterior world to the interior world. Giving your self some house to settle in. Rooting our consciousness. first on the breath, noticing the breath on the nostrils, the again of the throat, the chest, ribcage, the stomach.

Noticing how the breath strikes the physique, after which turning into conscious of the physique itself the place you are seated,  the load of the sip bones or wherever you is perhaps.

And in your subsequent inhale, beginning to discover your connection, your Pilina, with breath. Inhaling connection, respiratory out connection. Perhaps noticing how the strains between the self and the breath should not so clear.

And now shifting our consciousness, let’s call to mind an individual with whom you already really feel deeply related. Anybody with whom you’ve got a deep, perhaps mutually sustaining or emotional or religious connection to.

Now with this individual in thoughts, maybe visualizing them with you right here, feeling their presence, noticing the expertise of your connection, your Pilina. We would say, “We’re related.” Or some phrase that involves thoughts simply acknowledging  this particular Pilina between the 2 of you.

Discover something that arises in your physique. As you make house for this connection and acknowledge it, discover any ideas that come up.

Maybe noticing the emotion tone, the sensation of this connection. Then permitting your self  to replicate for a second on what it’s that connects the 2 of you. It may very well be a shared coronary heart house or a shared mission. An unstated connection.

Simply permitting your self the house to actually acknowledge all of the methods during which this connection exists, and maybe the methods during which this connection has had impression in your life, in your wellbeing.

And maybe even for this one that sits with you within the meditation, the way it’s nourished their lives. Then opening up the house to have the ability to categorical something that involves your thoughts or coronary heart to this individual you’ve got Pilina with.

Discover the way it feels to supply acknowledgement of this Pilina. After which be happy to thank this individual for being part of your meditation. As you begin to permit their picture to dissipate  and also you draw your consciousness again to the breath, all the time there ready for you.

And as you are prepared, slowly starting to open your eyes to welcome your environment.

And as you begin to make your means again into no matter bodily house and time you end up in, simply noticing if there’s something your physique wants proper now, if it is advisable transfer, stretch, and simply noticing the emotional house that your physique is in.

And if it so strikes you, the sorts of stuff you mentioned to this individual you’re feeling Pilina with, in case you occur to be fortunate sufficient that this individual is accessible to you, you may all the time  write in an electronic mail, give them a name, ship a textual content. And if not, simply resting within the information that it has been acquired on the opposite facet.

Mahala for becoming a member of me in the present day. Have an exquisite remainder of your day.
