Kelly & Rembert Win Pulitzer Prize

Erin Kelly, professor of philosophy at Tufts College, along with the late Winfred Rembert, have received the the 2022 Pulitzer Prize for biography/autobiography for his or her ebook, Chasing Me to My Grave: An Artist’s Memoir of the Jim Crow South.

The ebook (see the earlier publish about it here) tells the story of Rembert, an artist, who was imprisoned and compelled to work as a part of a sequence gang owing to his involvement within the civil rights motion in Georgia. The Pulitzer Prize announcement calls the ebook “a searing first-person illustrated account of an artist’s life through the Nineteen Fifties and Nineteen Sixties in an unreconstructed nook of the deep South—an account of abuse, endurance, creativeness, and aesthetic transformation.”

The prize consists of $15,000.

Rembert died in March, 2021.
