The Journal of Ethics and Social Philosophy (JESP) will briefly cease accepting new submissions on November 1st.

Government Editor Mark Schroeder (USC) writes that the moratorium on submissions will permit the editorial crew, which has grown significantly for the reason that journal’s founding in 2005, to compensate for its backlog of submissions. At present, the journal has twelve affiliate editors, a dialogue notes editor, an govt editor, a managing editor, a volunteer typesetter, and three copyeditors. Regardless of this progress, Professor Schroeder says:

Over this time, we’ve got failed—by which I imply, I’ve personally failed—to maintain our copyediting employees rising sufficiently quick to maintain up with the amount of accepted papers, and our backlog of accepted papers awaiting copyediting and publication has grown to unacceptably lengthy. The moratorium on new submissions won’t instantly gradual the expansion of this backlog, as a result of we’ll proceed to just accept papers submitted over the previous months, however it is going to give us a possibility to begin to catch up as we convey on new copyeditors to share this work as shortly as we’re ready.  JESP will re-open for brand spanking new submissions as quickly as we’re as soon as once more absolutely on prime of our copyediting and publication queue—and by Could 1st, 2023 on the newest.

He provides:

We don’t take this transfer calmly, as we’re nicely conscious of the scarcity of excellent venues to publish the entire nice new work in ethical, social, authorized, and political philosophy, and the lengths to which many youthful students getting into the sphere should go to publish their work. However presently we imagine that taking this transient hiatus from new submissions is one of the best ways to guard the way forward for the journal and make sure that JESP can proceed to supply a mannequin for fully open-access, university-funded publication far into the longer term.
