David Essex rang me late in 1982 – simply after my return from Australia, and requested if I might write him a Christmas hit. It was already late October so we did not have a lot time. I used to be as a result of be writing with Tim Rice the next day- and hoped to develop my concept for a musical concerning the Aztecs…anyway so I advised Tim concerning the David Essex request, and we began considering of concepts. … we wrote a little bit of the refrain and two traces of the verse, after which when Tim had gone residence I sat and labored on it, arising with the completed refrain and the second verse lyrics.
