The Leverhulme Trust, a philanthropy in London which gives grants and fellowships to students throughout a spread of disciplines, has launched an investigation of certainly one of its early profession fellows who works in philosophy on the College of Cambridge.

In response to weblog posts he not too long ago wrote and which have been reported on by Varsity, a Cambridge scholar newspaper, the Leverhulme Belief announced on Monday:

UPDATE (2/15/24): I must have commented on the tutorial freedom side of this after I posted. A reader jogged my memory of this, therefore this replace. So, to be clear: to revoke Cofnas’ fellowship or to fireplace him from Cambridge on the idea of his weblog posts can be a blatant violation of his educational freedom, and, in my view, have been Leverhulme or Cambridge to take action, they’d be wronging Cofnas. After all, to make this level is to not defend any of Cofnas’s views, which, to place it in a fairly understated manner, strike me as totally weird. Neither is it to touch upon the matter of whether or not he ought to have been awarded the fellowship and place within the first place.
